I admit I have been having trouble coming up with interesting topics for my learning blog! I guess I hit the proverbial writer’s block and everything sounded dull… But with the last couple of days of sunny weather I realized colors are an interesting topic to tackle so I will start this week by talking about the word ‘colors’ in general, and I will expand on a single color each week!
Colore (sing) or colori (pl) is the Italian word for color(s). Pretty easy, right?? Some expressions connected to this word are
- Ne ho viste di tutti i colori! (Lit: I have seen things in all colors > I’ve seen all sorts of things!)
- Una nota di colore (Lit: a note of color > A touch of folklore/local flair)
- Ne dice di tutti i colori (Lit: He says things of all colors > He says anything he thinks, without filter)
Some English phrases with ‘color’ that cannot be translated literally in Italian
- With flying colors > in modo brillante/ brillantemente
- Show your true colors > Mostra la tua vera natura
Stay tuned for next week: we will talk about the color red!
